Moab Dining at the Quesadilla Mobilla

Moab Dining at the Quesadilla Mobilla

Moab Dining

Moab dining has been a little stale for the last few years. Restaurants in Moab are usually coffee shops, burger joints, coffee shops, breweries, coffee shops, coffee shops, and the occasional bakery with a coffee shop. Nationwide the mobile food truck business seems to have exploded; I’ve seen and read about eclectic and delicious mobile restaurants offering killer food in diverse locales all over the country. This adventurous craze seems to have passed Utah by, especially rural Utah, leaving the state stuck with only the time-honored roach-coach of lore.

Moab, Utah

Moab though, recently became home to the Quesadilla Mobilla, a bright yellow truck usually parked at 83 S. Main Street by the Canyonlands Trading Post, and occasionally at local events. The Quesadilla Mobilla takes Moab dining to new heights with the simple combination of cheese and tortilla. Owners Carrie and Steven add personality and creativity to an otherwise tame dish, delivering a creative product that’s easy to eat and tastes great.

Moab Restaurant

I’ve eaten at the Mobilla a few times now, and I’ve always been impressed by both the service and the flavor. The desert quesadillas are surprising and unforgettable – definitely worth a second visit.

Moab Dining

If you’re walking around Moab in the evening (like most tourists do) stop and  check it out, it’s as tasty as any brewery, certainly more affordable, and there’s rarely any wait.

Motorcycling the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands National Park, Moab, Utah

I’ve wanted to ride the White Rim Trail on a motorcycle for years now, and Randy and I finally did it this last weekend. It was great weather, great fun, and the car show afterwards was pretty entertaining. Here’s a short video of us riding the trial:

New Kid’s Book The Cat’s Glasses Now Available

I’ve written and illustrated another kid’s book, The Cat’s Glasses. Last year I wrote Coyote Life, and made it available for download for the Kindle and other e-readers. With this latest book, The Cat’s Glasses, I’m happy to announce both titles will now be available in print versions from MagCloud.

The Cat's Glasses

By Quinn Hall in Kid’s Books

32 pages, published 4/20/2013

The print versions have turned out pretty good.

The colors are bright and fun, and the kids love reading them. I’ve ordered several to sell at the Beehive Bazaar, so look for Leah’s booth there, where she’ll be selling wallets, camera straps and some really cool dopp kits.

Thanks for looking.

New Kid’s Book Coming Soon

I’ve written and illustrated a second children’s book. This one’s a little longer, it doesn’t rhyme, and I’m going to have a published, paper, IRL version instead of only the e-book, the way I did with Coyote Life. I’m waiting on the proof copy now, and I’ll announce when it’s for sale officially. Here’s a preview:

And here’s a gif of illustration I did… it’s more time-consuming than I ever would have thought:

Junk Piles in the Middle of Nowhere

Wandering around at work we occasionally come across great piles of junk. It’s sad to see that someone has thrown a bunch of stuff into the desert to just let it decay, but the decay process is sometimes cool. It’s also interesting to see the stuff people throw away. I like the bullet holes as well – it seems things left in the middle of nowhere don’t go more than a few days without bullet holes. Here’s some shots of a junk pile we found the other day. All shots with a Ricoh GRD 4. After the announcement of the Ricoh GR, I can hardly stand the wait for the new model.

Ricoh GR Announced

Update: My patience payment of $800.00 has been rewarded and I’ve received the new Ricoh GR digital camera! I’ve posted an unboxing video and some comparison shots with the Ricoh GRD IV HERE.

I’ve been waiting for the Ricoh GR (or the Ricoh GR “V”) for a while now. I’ve had the Ricoh GRDIV since it came out, and I was looking forward to this camera. Imaging Resource has a pretty in-depth hands-on video.

As my friends know, I’m interested in cameras to a certain degree. That degree being very high. I usually think about cameras all day. If I’m not thinking about cameras, I’m reading about them in the 60 or so RSS feeds I subscribe to that are photography related. If I’m really lucky, I’m actually taking photos. At any rate, I stayed up late last night and waited until the announcement was made. I usually sit up waiting for announcements a few times a year. Yeah – I lead an exciting life. Of course I ordered the stupid thing within minutes of it being available… I’ll do a super-exciting unboxing video when it gets here in late May.

DPReview has a good write-up here, and while they argue that the camera isn’t as good as it could be due to it’s aim at shooters who use raw, that’s fine with me. I really appreciate that Ricoh makes cameras that write raw files as .dng’s instead of some proprietary garbage.

The hard part now is waiting until May.

Thanks for reading.

Photos From Canyonlands

I was able to get to Canyonlands last week and shoot some photos – last week I posted a link to the Cameras in Canyonlands page – here’s a few more photos from the rest of the drive. I can’t get enough of Canyonlands. Soon enough I’ll be back down in the bottom looking up at the top. Excited for river season to start.

These two women probably had a better time watching sunrise at Mesa Arch than any of the photographers did – no shutter speed/lens flare/aperture stress at all. Just the tranquil beauty of Canyonlands. I should do this more.
