Junk Piles in the Middle of Nowhere

Wandering around at work we occasionally come across great piles of junk. It’s sad to see that someone has thrown a bunch of stuff into the desert to just let it decay, but the decay process is sometimes cool. It’s also interesting to see the stuff people throw away. I like the bullet holes as well – it seems things left in the middle of nowhere don’t go more than a few days without bullet holes. Here’s some shots of a junk pile we found the other day. All shots with a Ricoh GRD 4. After the announcement of the Ricoh GR, I can hardly stand the wait for the new model.

Ricoh GRD V

UPDATE: My early impressions and comparison of the Ricoh GR now posted.

Photo Rumors is reporting the specs and impending announcement of the new Ricoh GRD V. Nice. It’s rumored to have an APS-C sensor, and a 28mm 2.8 lens.

I’ve written before about how much I like the old GRD IV, and now I’ll have to find somewhere to
get on the pre-order list.

On a side note, this is the first post I’ve ever created entirely with my phone using the wordpress app. It’s not as simple as on a computer, but it was surprisingly easy – as long as it works…

Cameras of Canyonlands Page

I’ve published a new page in the Collections section of the site. It’s a project I’m calling Cameras of Canyonlands. It’s more about the cameras and tourists than the rocks. I’ve seen some pretty unique cameras over the years in the parks around Moab and in Utah – it’s time I started photographing the cameras as much as the scenery. I’m trying to come to terms with the fact that half my photography hobby revolves around collecting cameras and knowing about all the different cameras out there – as opposed to being obsessed with making great images. If my hobby were strictly photography and not cameras, it’d probably be cheaper. At any rate, if you’ve not seen it already, hop on over the Cameras of Canyonlands page and check it out. I’ll update it as often as I can. Thanks for looking.

Ricoh GRD IV Multiple Exposure

Ricoh GRD IV Multiple Exposure ModeRicoh GRD IV

As I’ve written in previous posts, I really like the Ricoh GRD IV for what it does. It’s small, it’s easy to hold, it’s infinitely adjustable, and the photos are decent. I’d never admit to being a sucker for gimmicky ideas and features on a camera, and on the Ricoh I don’t regularly use any of the .jpg modes or much else. I’m really liking the multiple exposure feature though. It’s the one thing I think should be in every camera. Continue reading
